Do I need to take my car to a main dealer for servicing?

Many people, often first time car owners, are puzzled and overall quite worried when it comes to this subject. As they believe, especially if you have a warranty on your vehicle, you must go to that manufacturer when you get your car serviced. But that is simply not true. You are able to take your car to an independent garage and that is something I would heavily recommend to any car owner in general.

It is simply a lot cheaper to go to an independent garage as they can often offer discounts on high quality parts, whereas in a manufacturer’s dealership you will be paying a premium for the same job. If you choose to book online through the garage’s booking system you will get a clear upfront price on the job that needs doing, which is your servicing. It is an honest and transparent way to do business and you will feel very secure and reassure, being confident you know what you are paying for and that your vehicle is in good hands.

A previously law stated that if you have a warranty on your car, you must return to that franchise dealer when getting it serviced. But in October 2003 that law changed, and now you are able to go to an independent garage for servicing even if your car is still under warranty.

It is overall a lot more time efficient to go to an independent garage as they usually have a lot less vehicles to attend to and the overall booking system and labour rates are a lot cheaper  than a big manufacture, as they have a lot less overhead costs to cover in the business.  As they have a lot more vehicles to attend to and it’s harder for them to manage time slots, as booking in for your service can often be rigorous.
